Gradual slopes and flats of decomposed granite substrate, affected by recent burn. Largely dominated by recovering chaparral vegetation, including Adenostoma fasciculatum, Ceanothus leucodermis, Yucca whipplei, Arctostaphylos glandulosa, Quercus john-tuckeri, Eriodictyon crassifolium var. nigrescens, Rhus trilobata, and Dendromecon rigida. Locally common herbaceous perennial near roadside. Leaves glabrous, coriaceous, medium green; calyx rose-colored. This glabrous variety accounting for about 35-40% of the species representation in the area, the other 60-65% being the typical, pubescent variety.
