Habitat: Very steep north-facing slope, soft granite-derived soil, not very rocky but probably fairly shallow; filtered sun through mixed conifer forest (black oak, Ponderosa pine, Douglas fir). Often abundant on north- to northeast-facing slopes, often the main ground cover.

Associated Taxa: Toxicodendron diversilobum, Carex multicaulis, Symphoricarpos mollis, Melica harfordii

Description: Plants loosely rhizomatous, loosely-rooted.
