Open gravely slopes in a largely burnt section of forest with some Pinus jeffreyi, Salix, Arctostaphylos patula, Ceanothus cordulatus, Symphoricarpos rotundifolia, Gayophytum diffusum ssp. parviflorum.
Locally common in shady places under pines on silty slopes above small drainage.
