Shrubs to ca 16 dm tall locally. Flowers yellow with fine reddish pattern on lower portion of banner. Pods inflated, reddish. Doubtlessly introduced by the Forest Service and obviously naturalizing on a recently burned west and southwest slope with Eriodictyon crassifolium, Eriogonum fasciculatum foliolosum, Salvia mellifera, Yucca whipplei caespitosa, etc.
