Started at locked gate to lookout on Hi Mountain, then south southeast to Hi Valley, then east to Road 30S05.2.; Santa Margarita Lake, Tar Spring Ridge 7.5'Trail started near 35.26052N 120.42981W. ended at 35.24926N 120.38324W. Trail started along road on ridgeline of chaparral, then down sunny thick chaparral slope to a narrow rift valley with heavy soil. Grassy valley dominated with oaks. Mostly Quercus douglasii, then smaller amounts of Q. agrifolia, Q. lobata. Leave valley for more chaparral. Then close to the end some more grassy area with oaks. Growing in valley.
Chaparral had components of: Adenostoma fasciculatum, Quercus berberidifolia, Garrya veatchii, G. flavescens, Eriodictyon tomentosum, Arctostaphylos glandulosa, A. glauca, Trichostema lanatum, Pickeringia montana, Ceanothus cuneatus, C. oliganthus, Galium andrewsii, G. porrigens, Eriogonum fasciculatum, E. elongatum, Rhamnus ilicifolia, Salvia mellifera, Linanthus californicus, Dendromecon rigida, Heteromeles arbutifolia, Prunus ilicifolia, and Cercocarpus betuloides. Valley had components of: Toxicodendron diversilobum, Ranunculus californicus, Viola pedunculata, Sanicula crassicaulis, S. bipinnata, S. bipinnatifida, Lomatium utriculatum, Plectritis ciliosa, Sisyrinchium bellum, Bromus diandrus, Melica californica, and Hordeum brachyantherum californicum.
