United States, California, Fresno, Hutchinson Meadow area (9400’), jct. Piute and Fr. Canyons (immed. W of 12,245’ Pilot Knob), Tributary S Fork San Joaquin River, 10 map miles E Florence Lake; crests N and S 12,100-12,500’.
Lodgepole forest up both canyons to 10,400’ and up both side walls in favored places to 10,400’ or above; Subalpine forest mostly krumholtz and spotty to 11,000’ - specimens rare above that.
This large Carex in the extensive ponds at ca. 10,680’ in lower portion of great embayment on NW wall French Canyon opposite Pilot Knob and below Merriam Lake. Lodgepole-subalpine forest contact immediately above.
