Most common herb in denser forest, white fir-sugar pine-Sequoia forest; no ground cover ex. ocas. herbs (Arabis repanda, Gayophytum, Galium, etc.).
Herbage reddish; lvs. in rosette, often very red beneath, upper surface dark green with veins conspicuously outlined in wht., stamens yellow; petals cream with slight greenish cast.
