Rocky, hard volcanic-derived clay, tan color. Juniper woodland. Associated species: Chrysothamnus, Artemisia tridentata, Purshia, Balsamorrhiza hookeri, Astragalus purshii var tinctus, Crepis occidentalis, Eriogonum umbellatum, Phlox stansburyi.
