Montane chaparral and with montane hardwood-conifer forest. Steep limestone outcrops and cliffs, with a mix of open (barren rock) and vegetated areas, open to moderate overstory. Slopes very steep, some vertical. Found growing on steep rocky slopes among boulders and cobbles, and in cracks and crevices on limestone cliffs
Erect perennial forb (bulb), 6-10 in. tall; anthers yellow, style white and declined, flowers laterally oriented at anthesis. Many associated species listed on label.
