Canyon among hills, ± urbanized Monterey pine (Pinus radiata) forest with vacant lots, roadsides, etc. More intact slopes also with Quercus agrifolia, Rhamnus californica, Heteromeles, Toxicodendron, Baccharis pililaris, etc.
Generally scarce annual, forming one local dense colony on roadside. Erect stems. Spikelets green.
