Open habitat of mixed montane chaparral at edge of coniferous forest. Slope ca. 30 degrees; soil decomposed granite; south orientation, in full sun. Associated plants: Ceanothus oliganthus, Penstemon centranthifolius, Salvia columbariae.
Deciduous shrub to 5 m tall. Corolla white, anthers yellow.
