Mixed montane forest with loam soil. North to north-west slope at approximately 20 degrees in partial shade. Associate plants are Abies concolor, Calocedrus decurrens, and Quercus chrysolepis.
Perennial plant with arched stems to 2 meters long. Abaxial side of leaf white. Corolla white; fruit matures red to black.
