Mixed montane forest with open habitat. Recent burn area. Slope ca. 30 degrees; soils clay-loam; south to south-east orientation, in full sun. Associated plants: Abies concolor, Pteridium aquilinum, and Pinus jeffreyi.
Perennial herb to 25 cm from rhizome. Perianth light tan.
