Riparian woodland with open canopy, north to north-west orientation in partial shade,10-20 percent slope with loamy soil. Associated plants are Toxicodendron diversilobum, Lillium sp., Quercus agrifolia, Alnus rhombifolia, Rhamnus sp.
Perennial to 50 centimeters tall. Ray flowers purple, disk flowers yellow. Glands on leaf and stems are sticky.
