large tree, about 80 feet tall
The species reaches its southern distributional limit in this canyon, where it is the dominant plant below 1000 feet elevation. Above this level Pseudotsuga Menziesii is dominant. Redwood is erroneously reported to be indigenous at Salmon Creek, 5 miles south of here. There are planted ones at the guard station, but none native.
