Clearing in Pinus lambertiana forest. Associated plants included: Arctostaphylos sp., Iris tenuissima, and Calochortus coeruleus.
Abundance: uncommon among short grasses. Perennial from rhizome. Cleistogamous flowers present on leafless stems arising from rhizome. Flower color: yellow with dark lines on lateral and lower petals, upper petals dark externally.
