Sandy Loam, flat partially shaded. Growing adjacent to and within closed Rhus integrifolia, with Baccharis sarothroides a nearby associate.
Shrub, 3-8 ft. tall, branches horizontal to erect. In flower and young fruit. Ovary greenish, perianth and stamens yellow, hypanthium and petals turning red-maroon after anthesis. Immature fruits green.
