Sand-gravel-cobble wash in canyon, mostly rhyolite; old alluvial fill forming benches c. 20 ft. above wash; with Ambrosia salsola, Parkinsonia flor., Bebbia junc., Encelia farin., Lycium andersonii, etc. Dry year; no live annuals.
Flowering
One large plant on bedrock at wash edge; 3 m tall, milky latex. Fls. & buds. Leafless stems, c. 10 from base branching into 20-25 whiplike branches. Dry broken branches beneath, looks like deer used this to rub off velvet last fall.
