United States, California, Los Angeles, Liebre Mountains Region: Upper watershed of Osito Canyon between Interstate 5 and the Old Ridge Route, vicinity of Osito Flat, a distinctive, open grassy break in slope under the high tension power lines.

Steep-sided ridges of bedded sedimentary rocks, dropping to narrow, winding canyon bottoms. Osito flat area with deeper, clay soils situated on extensive break in slope. Entire area burned in August 1996. Before burn, the vegetation was relatively open chaparral of Adeonostoma fasciculatum, Eriogonum fasciculatum, Ceanothus cuneatus, and Cercocarpus betuloides on the slopes, grassland with Stipa, Avena fatua, and Hemizonia fasciculata at Osito Flat. At present time, post fire annuals well developed,especially Lotus salsuginosus, Lotus wrangelianus, Camissonia californica, Cryptantha muricata, Phacelia viscida, Emmenanthe penduliflora,and Salvia columbariae.
Erect annual, flowers small, white. Occasional on clay soil at Osito Flat.
