Montane chaparral and with montane hardwood-conifer forest. Steep limestone outcrops and cliffs, with a mix of open (barren rock) and vegetated areas, open to moderate overstory. Slopes very steep, some vertical. Found growing in cracks and crevices on limestone cliffs and among rocky slopes.
