Ridge crest with steep slopes on either side, clay-loam. Associates: Pinus coulteri, Quercus parvula var. shrevei, Arbutus menziesii, Arctostaphylos hooveri, Ericameria arborescens.
Common. Shrub. Erect to ascending, to 4 m tall. Leaves dark green shiny above, paler, dull below. Young leaves with glandular margins. Calyx, corolla blue.
