Del Norte County is unlikely, considerably north of the documented range for Quercus agrifolia. Kamb collected widely in California during summer 1949. In addition to Del Norte County, his CCH2 collections document visits to Jackson, Siskiyou, Mariposa, and Monterey counties. Considering his other 1949 collections/dates, if Kamb's collection number were 1535 instead of 1435--and all other collection data besides locality for this specimen unchanged--this Quercus agrifolia would have been harvested in Monterey County's Santa Lucias, much less surprising than Del Norte County. Interestingly, this was Kamb's only CCH2 oak (Quercus) collection during 1949. Summer 1926 through summer 1949 his CCH2 Quercus collections totaled 20.
