Southwest-facing slope; areas of open mixed conifer forest dominated by Ponderosa pine and black oak, also with white-leaf manzanita, canyon live oak, Douglas-fir; with Calochortus tolmiei, Lathyrus, Ranunculus occidentalis, Luzula comosa. Plant a distinctive bunchgrass, forming long-leafy clumps 3 dm diameter, each with several tall culms, inflorescence branches starting to droop, spikelets terete; common in small openings and disturbed slopes.
