Filtered light of partially open area in mixed conifer forest (Douglas-fir, Ponderosa pine, incense cedar, Rhamnus tomentella). Shrubs 1.2-1.7 m tall; lower short branchlets thorn-like; small axillary umbels of white-ish to slightly pinkish flowers; just leafing out; only seen in this cluster of plants near an ephemeral creek.
