Soil a hard-packed, sandy mix of ash and decomposed granite, in a diverse shrubland dominated by L. cooperi, Ephedra nevadensis, Joshua trees (no creosote), Grayia spinosa and Salazaria mexicana. Common herbaceous associates include Phacelia fremontii, Gilia modocensis, Chaenactis xantiana, and Layia glandulosa. Fls pale lavender when fresh.
