In areas where mixed conifer forest has been greatly thinned and the resulting understory shrubs have been cleared several years ago; mixed conifer forest dominated by ponderosa pine and black oak; substrate of metamorphic rock; common shrubs are deerbrush, poison oak, bracken, toyon, black oak stump sprouts, white-leaf manzanita, Lemmon's ceanothus. Ray flowers bright white, spreading; disk nflowers yellow; stems erect.
