Habitat:
Bare rocky ground around serpentine chaparral (Quercus durata, Ceanothus jepsonii, Garrya, Arctostaphylos, scattered gray pine). Calyx dark purple; petals purple with yellow-white edges; upper 2 filaments enlarged and fused, purple middle and light yellow edges; flowers crowded; leaves yellow-green, tender and flexible, aging rusty-color.
