This herb was collected from a chaparral or brushland in the general vicinity of a road cut on a southeast exposure as a member of the herb layer in a fruiting state. The population was located on the middle third of a ridge system that had a 60 percent slope, a smooth vertical slope shape and a smooth horizontal slope shape. It was growing on soil having a shot texture composed mainly of serpentine rock with a lava and glass flow origin.
