This herb was collected from a chaparral or brushland in the general vicinity of a slope or hillside on a south exposure as a member of the herb layer. The population was located on the upper third of a ridge system that had a 25 percent slope, a convex vertical slope shape and a smooth horizontal slope shape. It was growing on soil having a loamy sand texture composed mainly of serpentine rock with a residual origin.
