This herb was collected from a chaparral or brushland in the general vicinity of a slope or hillside on a southwest exposure as a member of the herb layer in a flowering and fruiting state. The population was located on the upper third of a ridge system that had a 45 percent slope, a smooth vertical slope shape and a convex horizontal slope shape. It was growing on soil having a very gravelly texture composed mainly of serpentine rock with a residual origin.
