Habitat:
Ephemeral drainage with meadowy patches, dark loam banks, gravelly streambed; with Salix exigua, Iris missouriensis, Juncus spp., Carex sp., grasses, Arnica chamissonis, Achillea millefolium, Symphyotrichum campestre, Potentilla gracilis fastigiata, many annuals.

Notes:
Annual herb; tepals pink and green, 4; capsules 1-2, capsule exceeding tepals, oblong; seeds in 4 rows, >10/capsule, seeds striated, dark reddish-brown. Hidden beneath Juncus bufonius var. occidentalis, uncommon locally.
