Broad, open, gravelly, wash bottom; pinyon-juniper woodland and Joshua tree woodland, with Quercus john-tuckeri, Pinus monophylla, Juniperus californica, Artemisia tridentata, Poa secunda, Graya spinosa, Eriogonum fasciculatum, Cryptantha, Layia glandulosa, Calyptridium monandrum, Camissonia campestris, Chaenactis xantiana, Leptosyne bigelovii, Syntrichopappus fremontii, etc.

Notes:
Scarce annual; lower corolla tube yellow, upper tube white; 1/2 of corolla lobe white, 1/2 lavender, corolla lobe colors divided vertically.
