Canyon bottom and slopes, rocky to loamy soil, sandstone bedrock and alluvium; chaparral and oak woodland with Quercus agrifolia, Q. berberidifolia, Artemisia californica, Malosma laurina, Salvia mellifera, Adenostoma fasciculatum, Eriogonum fasciculatum foliolosum, etc.
Sterile
Common trees mostly 5-10 m tall, with dense evergreen crowns; on bottom of side canyon where forming dense groves.
