Slopes with scrub of Chrysolepis sempervirens, Arctostaphylos patula, and Ceanothus cordulatus on more open or xeric, rocky slopes, woodland of Pinus jefferyi, Abies concolor, Pinus lambertiana, and Pinus contorta on deeper soils, mesic exposures.

Parasitic perennial, mostly found near Chrysolepis, Arctostaphylos, plant body dark purplish, blackish brown. Voucher for seed collected from 4 individuals
