East-facing (84-120°), rocky, gravelly, upper slope of 34°. Jeffrey pine forest and canyon live oak woodland. Assoc. with Asclepias californica, Bromus tectorum, Chrysothamnus nauseosus, Elymus elymoides, Eriogonum cf. nudum, E. saxatile, E. umbellatum, E. wrightii subscaposum, Eriophyllum confertiflorum, Gilia leptantha transversa, Hulsea vestita gabrielensis, Linanthus breviculus, Lupinus excubitus, Penstemon grinnellii, Phacelia imbricata, Pinus jeffreyi, Poa secunda, Quercus chrysolepis.
