Alluvial flats and moderate to steep slopes, granitic substrate with large boulder outcrops, loose, decomposed granite soils. Recently burned (2006 or 2007), formerly dominated by scrub of Artemisia tridentata, Chrysothamnus nauseosus, Yucca brevifolia on flats, drier slopes, scrubby woodland of Pinus sabiniana, P. monophytlla, Quercus wislizeni, Q. chrysolepis, Fremontodendron californicum, Ribes, Cercocarpus betuloides, Ceanothus vestitus, Rhamnus californica on steeper slope and more mesic exposures.
Flowering & Fruiting
Erect annual, ray and disk flowers yellow, anthers yellow. Locally common in gentle swale drainages with shallow soil over bedrock, benches above main channel of Water Canyon. Thousands of plants seen, most on the south side of main channel showing little grazing damage from cattle, while those on north side of channel much grazed.
