Gentle to steep mountain slopes with scattered granite boulder outcrops, cut by ephemeral streams; decomposed granite soil; brushy pine-oak woods with Pinus coulteri, P. jeffreyi, Arctostaphylos pungens, A. pringlei, Quercus chrysolepis, Q. wislizeni, Q. kelloggii, Cercocarpus bet., Ceanothus leuc., Lonicera sub., Artemisia trid., etc.
