Mixed chaparral and pinyon-juniper woodland, with some oak woodland and grassland. Bedrock limestone, with cover of loamy alluvium over much of area and localized outcrops. Assoc. with Ceanothus greggii, Pinus monophylla, Garrya flavescens, Juniperus calif., Yucca whip., Fremontodendron, etc.
Buds only
Fairly common densely cespitose perennial (numerous clustered rosettes) on dry slopes, widespread. Most plants vegetative. Infl. on this one c. 2.5 m tall.
