Dry, grassy land, mostly disturbed by grazing. Assoc. with Rumex pulcher, Clarkia davyi, Centaurea calcitrapa, Anthemis cotula, Lonicera hispidula vacillans, Dudleya abramsii murina, Calochortus clavatus, Chorizanthe palmeri, Malva nicaeensis, etc.

Uncommon; roadside bank. Flowers with dark keel and red lines.
