Steep, N-facing slope on metasedimentary substrate weathering to rocky loam soil. Somewhat open scrub of Quercus chrysolepis, Q. garryana breweri, and Cercocarpus betuloides with numerous open grassy areas.
Fruiting
Arborescent shrubs with deciduous leaves, locally common and forming thickets on mesic slopes.
