Area of extensive outcrops of rounded granitic boulders weathering to coarse decomposed granite soil. Vegetation a mosaic of dense chaparral of Quercus wislizenii, Q. chrysolepis, Ceanothus leucodermis, Adenostoma fasciculatum, Arctostaphylos glandulosa, with more open areas of low scrub of Eriogonum fasciculatum, Eriastrum densifolium, Poa secunda, Eriophyllum confertiflorum, etc.
Flowering
Coarse perennial herb, petals cram with dark wine-red tips. Locally common on decomposed granite.
