Rolling hills and alluvial slopes with fine, often clay, soil; burned grassland on lower slopes and partially burned saltbush scrub with Atriplex polycarpa and Bromus rubens dominant on upper slopes.

Annual, very local but common in one area of clay soil on lower slopes near Avenal, in road surrounded by burned grassland.
