A distinctive, open grassy break in slope uner the high tension power lines. Steep-sided ridges of bedded sedimentary rocks, dropping to narrow, winding canyon bottoms. 'Osito Flat' area with deeper, clay soils situated in extensive break in slope. Local on colluvial deposits, generally heavy soils and mesic exposures.
Before burn, the vegetation was relatively open chaparral of Adenostoma fasciculatum, Eriogonum fasciculatum, Ceanothus cuneatus, and Cercocarpus betuloides on the slopes, grassland with Stipa, Avena fatua and Hemizonia fasciculata. At present time, post-fire annuals well developed, especially Lotus salsuginosus, Lotus wrangelianus, Camissonia californica, Cryptantha muricata, Phacelia viscida, Emmenanthe penduliflora, and Salvia columbariae.
