Growing on very dry slope in crevices of rock downfall; deep leaf mold over rocks; not found in more moist parts of streamland or in overflow; present at least 1.5 miles down stream; most abundant at first rise above flood line on north slope; incense cedar, yellow pine, oak, manzanita growing nearby.
