Growing in open places surrounded by forests of Pinus ponderosa and thickets of Ceanothus integerrimus; associated with Balsamorhiza deltoidea, Sidalcea asprella, Chamaebatia foliolosa, and Lathyrus sulphureus. Ray flowers 10-13; ligules deep yellow, rarely all perfect.
