Supplementary collections: Photo, soil (rack). See also Matthews #40 (RSA 22758). This was the second largest cypress tree found in the Type Region or Grove. Estimated height at about 50 ft. DBH of same 22.7591 inches. Compare picture with that of ‘artistic group’ on Northeast Goose Nest - from which came numbers 36-37-38. This tree had smooth bark very similar to the trees at Seiad and Miller Lake - very much so. Rock samples: collected nearby are being sent to the Arnold Arboretum, Stanford University, and Dr. Wolf. Staples of the University of Oregon identified said rock as highly vesicular basalt. 12/8/39. Picture #3-506 117 9 Base of second largest Bakers Cypress in Type Region.
