Floodplain on flat valley bottom w gravelly benches of rocks derived from sandstone, granitic, gneiss, etc. Surrounding slopes steep, mostly sedimentary and metasedimentary substrates. Vegetation on slopes mostly scrub of Salvia leucophylla, S. mellifera, Eriogonum fasciculatum, & Artemisia californica. Riparian elements such as Salix lasiolepis , S. laevigata, S. exigua, Baccharis salicifolia, & Populus fremontii developed along stream channels, but most benches somewhat disturbed.
Rhizomatous perennial, locally common at edge of stream.
