Growing on flats and lower slopes ing ravelly soil along the road to Vancouver Pinncales, scattered among thickets of Adenostema fasciculatum.
Plants shrubby, 1 to 2 m. high, with long wand-like branches. Bracts reddish: corolla, stamens, and style purple, often tinged with blue. This species had not been known highterto from north of Arroyo Seco, Monterey County. It was originally collected by Douglas, probably on his trip from Monterey to Santa Barbara, but the exact locality is not known.
